Protecting customers
Protecting the customers of banks and insurers is central to the work we do.
To fulfill its customer protection mandate, the ACPR regularly shares information about financial scams, conducts awareness-raising campaigns and provide customers with information about their rights and contracts:
The ACPR issues public warnings about financial scams by way of press releases. The Authority also keeps a regularly updated blacklist of websites and entities that are not authorised to offer commercial banking or insurance services in France. We advise you to exercise particular caution in view of the surge in internet-based financial scams, social media scams and telephone scams.
The ACPR conducts various awareness-raising campaigns relayed on social media, on the radio... You can follow us on our Instagram, LinkedIn et Facebook accounts.
The ACPR provides customers with guidance on their rights and contracts:
Do you have a housing loan project; do you want to change your insurance policy or need information about a specific contract?
Visit the ABE Infoservice website for find answers to your questions about insurance, banking or financial investment. We are available to provide you with information and guide you through the administrative processes associated with these topics.
The ACPR monitors business practices on the market (advertising, offerings, marketing methods, etc.). This monitoring relies on various information sources collected from professionals, for instance using thematic surveys, and from the public, through complaints received, or through thematic questionnaires. This activity enables the Authority to identify and anticipate market trends and risks and to establish supervisory priorities.
The ACPR supervises the business practices of banking and insurance undertakings, their intermediaries as well as crowdfunding intermediaries. When appropriate, the ACPR asks professionals to bring their practices into compliance. Among other things, we can send them reminders of the rules that apply in respect of cold calling, and stress the importance for customers to be well informed before any contractual arrangement is made (duty of advice).
The ACPR publishes best practice recommendations for professionals and press releases for the general public, with the aim to ensure that a fair balance is maintained between customers and professionals. The ACPR coordinates its efforts with the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF – the French Financial Markets Authority) and is actively involved in cross-sectoral work within the framework of the ACPR-AMF Joint Unit.
